Day 2

Once again, Krolls is not writing this blog! Madison is! She is writing some postcards as we speak! Yesterday was quite the adventurous day! We started off by waking up and eating breakfast in the hostel! We had a roomie, Adina, join us in the middle of the night! Adina is from Malaysia and quite a nice girl, though we didnt talk for long! Afterward, we headed to the bus station where we caught a bus to Belem to see the tower and the water. While there, we found an amazing cathedral that had details like none we had ever seen before! The tower was incredible and had a very long and narrow spiral staircase that we took up and down! It was quite a stressful climb because we frequently had to stop and let others brush by us! I even saw one lady who was practically in tears because she wanted to go no further! After the tower we made our way to the Museum of Modern Art where we were pleasantly surprised with amazing art of all forms, including video, painting, photography and other mediums. The cafeteria there was great. We had a type of fried chicken along with octopus and rice. Afterward, we made our way back to Lisbon and decided to head up to the castle right by our hostel. We made the long and treacherous journey up the steep hills and then found a small bus that took us practically all the way to the edifice. Once there, we were pleased to find amazing views that were like no other! After embracing the surrounding area, watching a peacock and nearly being attacked by a wild cat, we decided to head back down, clean up, and join everyone in the hostel for a nice dinner. We made it to dinner and were graced by the presence of people from Australia (two of which were five months into an eleven month long trip around the world), and a few lovely Canadians as well! We all ate and chatted together as we enjoyed our seafood mix over rice that had full squid (or fun things, as Katie called them), full prawns and an assortment of clams and mussels. Finding ourselves with an abundance of energy, we hit the town to see Lisbon at night! We stopped at a few cafes to sit among the people and returned to the hostel only to stay up until 3am! In all, it was a great day in which we saw many things! Tomorrow comes the tale of our epic journey to Sintra... hopefully written by Aleksa! Cheers and obrigado (that´s Portuguese!
